The Main Library is located on the 2nd floor of the Beckman Center at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. It houses most of the Zoo's 11,000+ books, and 400+ print journal titles. The San Diego Zoo Global Archives and Rare Book Room are also at this site, while small specialized print collections can be found throughout our multi-campus organization.
The library is open Monday through Friday, 8 am-4:30 pm. Library staff are happy to assist with research projects, reference questions, using the in-house ZOONOOZ and Archive databases, and using our many subscription resources. There are three networked computers, a slide scanner, flat bed scanner, color printer, and photocopier available for staff use.
Most of our resources and services can also be accessed via this portal:
For general inquiries, any of the library staff will be happy to assist you.

Library Mission
The Library facilitates San Diego Zoo Global research activities, serving as a gateway to authoritative information and providing efficient, high-quality research assistance. We help to inform the work of staff and volunteers, enhancing the reproduction, protection, exhibition, and well-being of animals, plants, and their habitats.
Library Vision
To enable research of the highest quality so that SDZG can become a world leader at connecting people to wildlife and conservation.
Archives Mission
The San Diego Zoo Global Archives supports SDZG by selecting, preserving, and making accessible materials in all formats which document the history and development of the organization. The Archive Collection provides a context in which San Diego Zoo Global’s objectives for conservation, education, exhibition, and recreation may be interpreted and preserved.
Archives Vision
To preserve the distinctive stories which embody SDZG’s rich history, foster a culture where contemporary documentation is a priority, and drive staff as well as the general public to explore and celebrate the organization’s legacy of connecting people to wildlife and conservation.
