About
The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Library provides information services and resources for San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance staff and volunteers. Our Archives & Rare Book Room preserves a wide variety of materials documenting our history, plus a specialized collection of 19th and 20th century publications related to various biological sciences and the history of zoological gardens. We are located in the Beckman Center next to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, overlooking beautiful San Pasqual Valley.

Services & Facilities
San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance team members may request books and articles through the Library’s website, check out/renew books by email or phone, and receive/return books by interoffice mail. We teach team members how to access our collections and journal subscriptions and navigate our website. We also provide reference and literature research services.
Team members are welcome to use our facilities during open hours. We offer a reading/study area, four SDZWA-networked computers, and a color printer/copier/scanner.
Library access and services are normally restricted to SDZWA team members. Scholars requesting access to our specialized collection may email library@sdzwa.org with a brief description of the research project and affiliated school or organization.

Library Hours & Location
Who can use the SDZWA Library?
We are a private library, open to San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance staff, volunteers, and affiliates. Researchers associated with an accredited academic institution or conservation organization may request access. (Note – Due to Covid-19, physical access is currently limited to SDZWA team members.) Our website is open to the public, but the Library’s electronic subscriptions and databases are restricted to staff, volunteers, and affiliates.
Where is the Library?
We’re located on the 2nd floor of the Beckman Center, next door to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, CA.
When is the Library open?
Our standard hours are M-F 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. (Note- We are currently open on a limited basis. Please email for hours.) We occasionally close for a meeting, so please call in advance to confirm (760-747-8702 x5736).
Library Website
Who can use the SDZWA Library website? Can I access it from my home computer?
The Library’s website is publicly available on any computer. Certain databases and journal subscriptions are limited to staff use. Access to those is automatically available on any SDZWA networked computer. For offsite staff access, please contact us.
